Borough of Wrightsville | York County, Pennsylvania

Permits and Ordinances

Why Do I Need A Permit?

By obtaining a Zoning or Building permit, you will protect the outcome and investment value of your construction project and be able to guard against a lawsuit or injury. The following information describes a few simple steps you can take in order to obtain a building permit and how permits can work for you. Permits are very beneficial to you and our community. By working with the Borough, you will benefit from their knowledge of building codes and zoning requirements to ensure your construction project is built right, will be safe and will last.  It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to erect, construct, enlarge, alter, move, improve, remove, convert, or demolish any building or structure; without a permit.

The Borough subcontracts the enforcement of the UCC to Solanco Engineering Associates LLC. The type of permit you need depends upon the project. Some projects require both a zoning and a building permit, while other require only one or the other. You will be informed if contact with Solanco Engineering LLC is necessary. Please contact Solanco Engineering Associates LLC @ 717-786-0355  for additional information regarding permitting requirements pertaining to the UCC.

Please note that permits are NOT issued on the same day they are submitted. To obtain your permit, it may take anywhere between 2 days and 2 weeks…it all depends upon the project, the required paperwork, etc. It is always best to take your time to ensure that you have all of the required information when applying for a permit. Please reference the link below that shows the fee schedule for the Borough of Wrightsville.

What is Stormwater Runoff?

Stormwater runoff is the mixture of rain water and pollution that is picked up as the rain water runs off of impervious surfaces such as buildings, parking lots, driveways and roads. This polluted rain water then drains into storm sewers which lead to major waterways such as rivers, lakes, seas and oceans. This pollution can be hazardous to plants, animals, fish and people.

Adopt A Storm Drain

It is very important that we work together to keep our storm drains working at 100% capacity at all times. Leaves, grass clippings, trash, branches, etc. can cause blockage which may result in dangerous street flooding if a storm hits.

Please report any damaged or blocked storm drain inlets right away by calling the Streets Department at 252-4559.

Considering a Do It Yourself Project ?

If you decide to embark upon a do-it-yourself project rather than hire a contractor, take the time to educate yourself on the type of permit(s) that may be required. Residents and business owners should use Best Management Practices (BMP’S) to prevent or treat the water that flows from your property and into the Borough storm drains.
